WHAT TO DO AND WHERE TO GO ...
Turunc
Turunc is a charming village nestling between the pine clad mountains and a beautiful bay. The village has steadily grown in recent years but has still managed to retain its relaxed atmosphere and rustic charm. It is located 30 minutes by car away from Marmaris on a road through the mountains. As an old fishing village, there is a busy harbour and seafront with a number of yachts and working boats.
You can stroll from one end of the village to the other in around 30 minutes. There are many good restaurants in the village along the seafront, harbour and back streets. There are a number of bars but no nightclubs so if you want some nightlife, Marmaris is the place to be and is not too far away.
The Turunc market is held every Monday and is very popular with locals and tourists alike. You can purchase local produce, souvenirs and all kinds of things but don't forget to haggle!
Further Afield
Water taxis operate from the harbour at Turunc and a trip to Marmaris takes about 45 minutes and costs around £3 each way. You can also get a water taxi to the neighboring resort of Icmeler or to nearby bays at Amos and Kumlubuk.
You can charter a boat from the harbour in Turunc and enjoy sailing around the coastline with a stop for lunch and some swimming in a secluded bay. You might even get the chance to swim with some turtles.
Taxis are inexpensive and local buses provide another cheap and fun way to explore the area.
In Marmaris you can spend the day browsing in the Bazaar or admiring the impressive selection of super yachts and designer shops at the Marina. Amos and Kumlubuk are in nearby bays down the coastline in the opposite direction and offer a more relaxed contrast to the hustle and bustle of Marmaris. Beyond that, the Bozburun peninsula is a delightful area to explore and offers a variety of things to do and places to see.
If you want to travel further afield, Turkey has an interesting history. You can see the remains of the Anatolian civilisation throughout the country. The most famous is Ephesus, a World Heritage Site home to one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World: The Temple of Artemis. Excursions can be booked in the village. Rhodes is only around an hour away by ferry from Marmaris with ferries from there available to a network of other Greek islands.
Turunc really is a delightful holiday location and loved by many visitors who fall in love with its charm and the warm welcome of the locals.
